You cannot bring weapons, explosives, flammable items, drugs, alcoholic drinks or your own food and drinks on the ferry. Florida law also bans weapons anywhere on Port Everglades property, including inside your parked car. Below is the full list, plus what the Bahamas and the U.S. ask you to declare.

Not allowed on the ferry

  • Weapons and cutting instruments.
  • Explosives, fireworks and flares.
  • Flammable items, fuels and gas torches.
  • Narcotic drugs.
  • Liquor and any drink with alcohol.
  • Your own food and drinks: they cannot be taken into the passenger areas. There is a cafeteria and a bar on board.
  • Luggage may contain only your personal belongings.

Not allowed at Port Everglades

  • Firearms and any weapon, carried or kept in your vehicle, are illegal on the port under Florida law (Florida Statute 311.12). Leave them at home: do not leave them in the car at the parking garage.
  • Stun guns, tasers, tear gas, chlorine and liquid bleach.
  • Drones.
  • Vehicles can be searched at the security checkpoints.

Entering the Bahamas

Flowers, plants, food and pets need a permit from the Bahamas authorities. Pets can travel with the right documents: read pets on the Bahamas ferry. For other limits, see Bahamas Customs.

Coming back to the U.S.

Declare all food, plant and animal products to U.S. customs, even if you think they are allowed. Most fresh fruit, vegetables and meat products cannot enter the U.S. Check the USDA rules and read coming back through customs.
